BPB strategy & guidelines
The Bilateral Programme Budget (BPB) funds projects that will support the efforts of the British High Commission in Uganda. Our work is guided by the Strategic Objectives of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
The total budget for 2008/09 is £198,000 (approx. 650 million Uganda Shillings).
Priority Areas for Funding:
Our priority areas for project funding in 2008/09 are:
- consolidating peace building efforts, and preventing and resolving conflict in Uganda
- promoting human rights and good governance
- combating corruption in Uganda
- promoting a sustainable, low carbon economy and boosting awareness of climate change and its implications for Uganda
- reducing the threat of international terrorism against Britain and British interests
- offering high quality support for British nationals in Uganda
- disrupting illegal immigration
Project Requirements
Projects must support one or more of the priority areas listed above.
Projects should be well structured, realistic and represent good value. They must have clearly identificable, measurable outputs and outcomes.
Projects must be completed by March 2009.
Quarterly reports are required from all funded projects and should include full financial accounts for the money used. Original receipts must be submitted for any project expenditure. Physical checks will be made on all on going projects. A completion report is required within one month of the end of the project.
Except in special circumstances, amounts provided to projects will generally not exceed 50 million Uganda Shillings.
What will the Bilateral Programme not fund?
There is NO fund at the British High Commission that provides money for school fees.
The Programme does not provide money for an organisation's core running costs, (e.g. salaries, utilities, rent, transport etc). It will not support private commercial businesses. It does not fund micro-finance / loan schemes.
Please do NOT apply for funding for any of the above.
When to apply:
The British High Commission receives applications throughout the year, although most funds will be committed by the end of November 2008.
How to apply:
Please collect a Project Application Form from the British High Commission or download one from our website. The applicant should seek approval from the relevant authorities in his/her district (LCI, LCIII and the Department Head). Letters of recommendation should be attached to project application forms.
Hard copies of completed project proposals should be addressed to the Bilateral Programme Officer. Applications can be sent by post or handed in at the main gate of the
