Chevening Scholarships

Chevening Scholarships are offered by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for full-time study in many subject areas, at a British university of the student's own choosing. Scholarships are awarded for one year Masters degrees or for short postgraduate courses.  Chevening Scholarships are fully funded awards and will cover the cost of the university tuition fees, a monthly living allowance and a return airfare to the UK.

The Chevening Scheme has operated in Uganda for over twenty years.  In that time over 90 scholarships have been awarded.

These scholarships are either fully funded by the FCO or are in partnership with a range of organisations.

Applications for the 2008/2009 academic year are now closed.

We will open applications for the 2009/10 academic year in November/ December 2008.  Advertisements will be placed in the Ugandan press, on this website and on the British Council website.  Short-listed candidates will be invited for interview in early 2009.

Some previous scholars had this to say about the benefits of the scheme:

"The Chevening Scholarship broadened my world view and challenged me to compete against myself and the best in the business. It was a life-changing experience."

Daniel Kalinaki, Editor-in-Chief, Monitor Group Newspaper

“I am now the Director of Prisons HIV/AIDS Training Programmes in the Uganda Prisons Service as well as an International HIV/AIDS trainer and Consultant. The Chevening Scholarship laid the foundation for me.”

Mary Kaddu Nkata, Commissioner of Prisons Support Services, Chevening Scholar 1996/97

Other Scholarships
